Poetry Sunday: Rosebud

A nice flowery ‘sonnet‘ for you guys this week.  And yes sonnet is in air quotes because other than the amount of lines there is really nothing else sonnet-y about it!

Rosebud

To look upon its red stained petals

you would think it was beautiful.

Deep lines running down its curved form

raised to the touch of rough fingers.

Pale at the peak the red pools,

clotting round its broken stem.

Full of life but shut away,

it closes tight around its heart.

If it had a voice to cry, would it scream

and protest at being so exposed,

or would it silently suffer to bear

the scars of a thousand thorns?

To look upon its red stained petals

you would think it was beautiful.
